    Life Science - Biodiversity

    Project Type

    Dance, Fine Craft

    Implementation Sites

    Monaview Elementary School

    Grade Level

    2nd

This unit offers 2nd-grade students a comprehensive exploration of biodiversity within natural environments. Students dive into the intricate relationships between plants, animals, and their habitats, deepening their understanding of ecological concepts. Throughout the unit, students engage with various aspects of plant and animal life, from basic plant needs to the mechanisms of pollination and seed dispersion. They also examine the crucial roles played by animals in these processes, fostering a holistic understanding of ecosystem dynamics. Utilizing modern interpretive dance techniques, students actively embody the concepts they study. Through the integration of dance elements such as movement vocabulary, levels, and pathways, students are able to bring the essence of biodiversity to life in a dynamic and expressive manner. In collaborative small groups, students culminate their learning with a final project. This project entails the creation of a triarama depicting their assigned habitat, accompanied by a carefully crafted movement sentence that encapsulates the essence of their studied environment through dance.
